More details

Believed to have been the ceremonial center of the Calusa when the Spanish arrived in the early 1500s, Mound Key rises from Estero Bay with shell mounds and interpretive trails. There are no boat docks — landings on the northwest and southeast sides serve kayaks, canoes and small boats. Most visitors paddle from Lovers Key State Park or Koreshan State Park.
